Recruit and coordinate students for the youth apprenticeship program

Integrate the youth apprenticeship program into the student’s overall educational program

Develop curriculum maps for each youth apprentice to integrate professional skills, academic skills, and technical skills

Sign the Education/Training Agreement for each student and complying with the conditions and requirements identified in the agreement

Curriculum Requirements

A minimum of 180 hours OR 2 semesters of classroom related technical instruction is required for each one year YA program with 250 of the work hours coinciding with the instruction

Learning objectives may be taught on-the-job and/or through the related technical instruction, but all of the applicable learning objectives must be covered

Responsibilities of youth apprentice employers

Interview and hire

Monitor both required hours of work and limits

Pay minimum wage or higher

Provide workers compensation coverage

Provide instruction in required competencies and mentorship

Provide a safe and well-supervised working environment

Sign and comply with the requirements in the Apprenticeship Agreement

Program Monitoring

The local steering committee is responsible for developing procedures to monitor the youth apprenticeship program to ensure that:

* The statewide youth apprenticeship curriculum guideline is being followed;

* The curriculum is regularly reviewed and modifications are sent to USDoL for approval;

* Written evaluation reports are completed every semester;

* Students are meeting: High school graduation requirements, required apprenticeship hours, and benchmarks for required competencies
